The electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers were prepared from the magnetite powders obtained as a byproduct in the recycle process for the sludge powder scraps of NdFeB-type sintered magnets. The resulting EM wave absorbers showed the minimum RL value of −32dB at 16.5GHz with 1.2mm thickness. Reduction of the magnetite powders leads to improve the EM wave absorption properties (RL<−20dB, range: 9–18GHz, thickness: 2–1.1mm) due to the increase of permeability. The above EM wave absorber stacked with a dielectric type one and carbon resistor could broaden an absorption range (4–15GHz, RL<−10dB) owing to the dual magnetic and electrical resistance loss.
