The first specific loss-of-function phenotype for a transmembrane Wnt receptorfrizzled-2(fz2) in zebrafish (Danio rerio) is described. The observed undulations of axial structures, together with the observed changes in embryo shape during gastrulation, argue for the involvement of fz2 in the process of gastrulation, possibly through the control of convergent extension movements. Moreover, the results suggest that wnt5 and fz2 may function in the same signalling pathway during gastrulation and axis elongation.
