The P-4 molecule bound to ruthenium as an eta(1)-ligand in [CpRu( PPh3)(2)(eta(1)-P-4)] Y (Y = PF6, CF3SO3) undergoes an easy reaction with water in exceedingly mild conditions to yield PH3, which remains coordinated to the [CpRu(PPh3)(2)] fragment, and oxygenated derivatives.
