Schizophrenic patients have impairments in cognitive function, including deficits in visuospatial working memory (VSWM). VSWM is mediated, in part, by prefrontal cortical dopamine (DA)function, and dysregulation of prefrontal cortical DA systems may contribute to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia.
