A first calculation of polarization in the ..pi../sup -/p..-->..etan reaction at ..sqrt..s <1600 MeV is presented. The calculation is based on a model that requires a set of ..pi..N elastic scattering phase shifts as an input and hence is able to distinguish among various ..pi..N phase-shift analyses if the polarization data are available.
