Scientific Inquiry provides a forum to facilitate the ongoing process of questioning and evaluating practice, presents informed practice based on available data, and innovates new practices through research and experimental learning.Recruitment and retention of study participants are challenges when conducting research with children and families in the healthcare field (Adubato, Alper, Heenchan, Rodriguez-Mayor, & Elsafty, 2003; Sugar, 2005). Recruitment of minority populations poses an additional challenge based on cultural factors of specific ethnic groups and a history of distrust based on past research misconduct (Aroian, Katz, & Kulwicki, 2006; CorbieSmith, Thomas, & George, 2002). Unfortunately, more is known about barriers to research than positive predictors of recruitment and retention, especially for minority populations (Aroian et al., Wilcox et al., 2001).
