of his volume, he tells us, he consulted over six thousand tablets, and to do this he had to visit all of the important museums of the world. Among the texts we can only mention his treatment (pp. 20 ff., 254 ff.) of the famous map of the world in the British Museum, CT, XXII, 48. He has shown quite conclusively that Weidner and others were wrong in connecting the text accompanying this map with the 'ar tamhari epic of Sargon, and Obverse 10, which quite generally has been read .... Ut-napi'tim(tim) Sarru-ken (Du) u N~r-dda-gdn Lugal-[ban]da (?) . . . . , he would more correctly read .... Ut-napi'tim(tim) 'arru illik (DU) u Nur-dda-gdn arru [illi]k (Du) ..... Incidentally it may be of interest to note that Unger (p. 26) gives Sargon the early date of 2850 B.C. Concluding the volume are indexes and a very complete Bibliography, in which the only serious omission would seem to be Dougherty's Nabonidus and Belshazzar. A useful device in the book is the use of numbers on the margins to indicate the illustrations that illuminate the text. Now that Unger has given us such a complete and satisfactory picture of ancient Babylon, we would be glad to have him do the same for its Assyrian rival, Ashur.
