CONCLUSIONIn conclusion, there is negligible ethical concern in financially incentivizing a subset of participants of the trial. However, some aspects of the study design should be clarified. The optimal design is that which will maximize the expected social value, while respecting participants. Further consideration ought to be given to a plan for adoption of the intervention if the trial is successful. Furthermore, given that some but not all participants will be incentivized, withholding some features of the study design from participants might be ethically justified in order to optimize the social value of the study.
