In this paper, a case history study of a tunnel in cold plateau regions is given. The engineering geological conditions of the tunnel have been described. The measured air temperatures in the tunnel and outside of the tunnel are presented. According to the measured temperatures of surrounding rocks in the tunnel, the freezing depths of the surrounding rocks in the tunnel are worked out. By analyzing the measured data, it is found that the thermal insulation effect of installation of the thermal insulation door is better than that of installation of the antisnow shed, i.e. the installation of the thermal insulation doors at both ends of the tunnel is more suitable to be used for preventing the tunnel in cold regions from damaging by frost action than the installation of antisnow shed at both ends of the tunnel.
