A model is developed which allows one to express the solvent polarity effects as a simple function of the relative permittivity (<) and the refractive index (n) of the solvents. A very good correlation between the proposed solvent function (e- l)(n1 2 3456789-l)/(2e+ l)(2n2+ 1) and Taft and Kamlet’s* solvent polarity parameters is found.
