Glass-ceramics have been studied as materials for the reconstructions of hard tissues because they display high compatibility with bones (i.e., bioactivity). In this chapter, the following topics are discussed to illustrate the application of bioactive glass-ceramics in biomedical applications: bone-bonding mechanism of glass-ceramics, biological and mechanical properties of clinically applied bioactive glass-ceramics, recent progress in bioactive glass-ceramics, and glass-ceramics applied in areas other than hard-tissue regeneration.
