Third, elucidating potential risk factors for developing O-BT is valuable. We agree with the authors that immune deficiency may play an important role in patients with OBT, but no data in the manuscript can support this hypothesis, as Table 1 failed to present any differences in patient background, including immunologic parameters. As long as the infection is subclinical, we assume that the amounts of endotoxin and evoked inflammation are less significant. In a normal situation and in individuals with normal immunologic function, routine administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics for 3 days, according to their protocol, might be effective enough to cure OBT. Therefore, patients with O-BT must have had some specific predispositions for developing SSI in association with O-BT.
