Taxonomic work on the myrmecophilous members of Miconieae (Melastomataceae) has uncovered a previously undescribed species as well as other taxonomic problems that are addressed here. Miconia daironii, a new species of myrmecophilous Miconieae, is described. This new species can be recognized by domatia fully immersed in the leaf blade, lateral inflorescences, and winged hypanthia. The new species is compared to other myrmecophilous species in the genera Clidemia, Maieta, and Tococa. For Tococa setifera, a complete description, justification for its recognition, and lectotypification is given. Tococa setifera has been considered a synonym of Tococa coronata; however, additional collections show that its recognition as a separate species is warranted. Notes are also included justifying the placement of Tococa stenoptera in synonymy under Tococa stellata, and placing Miconia stylosa in synonymy under Tococa subciliata.
