Muon spin relaxation (μ SR) measurements are reported on a polycrystalline sample of LiV 2 O 4 at temperatures down to 20 mK. No sign of magnetic order was found over the investigated range of temperature, proving the high quality of the sample. The μ SR signal at lower temperature is clearly composed of two components with almost equal partition, suggesting the presence of inequivalent local magnetic moments at V sites. This is in favor of mechanisms other than those based on the Kondo effect for an anomalously enhanced electronic density of states in LiV 2 O 4.
