Abstract This is primarily a clinical article, however, substantive evidence is presentedincluding studies of 42 and 58 patients to show the treatment to be uncommonly stable. The use of Kloehn cervical gear is considered in regard to Class II skeletal correction, Class II dental correction, slow apical base expansion as a means for creating arch length, as an anchorage source to correct anterior overbite, and its direct application to the mandibular dental arch. Owing to the great versatility and effectiveness of the appliance, the author believes that Kloehn cervical gear is the most significant appliance developed to date in orthodontic-orthopedic history.
