While considering some industrial uses of S-alkyl and S-aryl thiosulfates, commonly referred to as “Bunte salts,” we have investigated some novel methods of preparation which are reported in this paper (I-IV). We discuss the structure and color of aromatic sulfenic acids obtained in the alkaline hydrolysisof the S-aryl thiosulfates (V). There isalso described a simple method for theprepara-tion of 3-nitrobenzenethiol (VI).
