Abstract We study the Betti numbers which appear in a minimal free resolution of the Stanley–Reisner ring k [Δ] of a Buchsbaum complex Δ and find a characterization of Buchsbaum complexes Δ for which a minimal free resolution of k [Δ] is linear.
