This book provides applied statistical knowledge for researchers in biological and environmental sciences. It minimizes the necessary mathematics and explains statistical concepts and theories in separated boxes (except the final chapter) in order not to disrupt the analysis of the data. The author focuses on the frequentist linear model framework. After an introduc-tory chapter (with an overview of R for beginners in an appendix at the end), Chapters 2 and 3 present ANOVA and Student’s t -test. Chapter 4 discusses model fitting, predic-tion and diagnostics in linear regression. Chapter 5 is on the comparison of different groups numerically based on means and intervals, followed by interaction effects for continuous and categorical variables in Chapters 6 and 7. Chapters 8–11 then extend basic linear models, and the last chapter shows how to present results via graphs and warns to be cautious about p -values. books hands-on
