Floral transition is regulated by environmental and endogenous signals. Previously, we identifiedVASCULAR PLANT ONE-ZINC FINGER1(VOZ1) andVOZ2as phytochrome B-interacting factors.VOZ1andVOZ2redundantly promote flowering and have pivotal roles in the downregulation ofFLOWERING LOCUS C(FLC), a central repressor of flowering in Arabidopsis. Here, we showed that the late-flowering phenotypes of thevoz1 voz2mutant were suppressed by vernalization in the Columbia andFRIGIDA(FRI)-containing accessions, which indicates that the late-flowering phenotype ofvoz1 voz2mutants was caused by upregulation ofFLC. We also showed that the otherFLCclade members,MADS AFFECTING FLOWERING(MAF) genes, were also a downstream target ofVOZ1andVOZ2as their expression levels were also increased in thevoz1 voz2mutant. Our results suggest that theFLCclade genes integrate signals fromVOZ1/VOZ2and vernalization to regulate flowering.
