This paper discusses a prediction method of 5.2 GHz indoor-to-outdoor propagation characteristics in an office environment by using computer simulations. We configure numerically a single floor of the office building for calculations and install a wireless LAN access point on the corridor ceiling in it. We present distributions of received signal strength (RSSI) observed on the plane outside the concrete wall without windows. It is confirmed that the signal attenuation increases depending upon the number of concrete walls in the indoor propagation path. Then we divide the observation plane into the four regions based on the number of walls inside. It is shown that adding up the RSSI distributions in each region together makes it possible to predict the overall distribution by assuming that they are lognormal.
