Specificity of Lernaeocera is discussed mainly on the basis of biological observations and records of occurrence of L. branchialis. Some references to L. obtusa and L. lusci are also made. Listed as hosts of the juvenile L. branchialis are 16 species (five as common hosts) and for the adult 19 species (six common hosts). The common hosts of the juvenile parasite comprise members to one genus, Gadus. The lists of hosts, the changes in the intermediate hosts from area to area, and the consideration of the biological activity of the parasite during the various stages of its development, indicate that the juvenile Lernaeocera tends to be less narrowly specific than the adult.
