Inflammation is defined as the local response of li ving mammalian tissues to injury due to any agent. Inflammation involves 2 basic processes early infla mmatory response later followed by healing. There a re two types of inflammation, Acute and Chronic. Acute inf lammation is of short duration and represents the e arly body reaction, resolves quickly and is usually foll owed by healing. Chronic inflammation is defined as prolonged process in which tissue destruction and i nflammation occur at same time. The anti-inflammato ry activity of new substances can be evaluated by usin g various pre clinical screening method. Here by us e of various phlogestic agent like carragenan, brewer's y a t, dextran, egg albumin, kaolin, aerosil, croto n oil, cotton wool inflammation is induced and the amount of decr ease in its inducing characteristics is measured.
