摘要--互联网已成为海量数据的新来源。由于新的社交行为、信息共享、社交网络以及软件系统的广泛传播，互联网上可用的数据量呈爆炸式增长。*大数据已成为科学、研究和工业领域的焦点。它在不同的研究领域有广泛的应用，如教育、网络、医疗、移动系统、网络日志、交通控制系统等。大数据软件和服务支持创新的生态系统，并通过启用全新的新一代解决方案创造价值，这是以前无法实现的。因此，迫切需要定义和理解与大数据环境相关的基本信息。本文简要介绍了大数据环境，并讨论了大数据参考体系结构、大数据在不同研究领域的适用性、大数据系统提供的机遇和面临的挑战。
Abstract - The Internet has become a new source of vast amount of data. The amount of data available on internet has exploded due to new social behaviors, information sharing, social networking as and vast spread of software systems. Big Data has become a center of focus in science, research and in industry. It has wide range of applications in different fields of study such as education, networking, healthcare, mobile systems, web logs, traffic control systems etc. Big Data software and services support an innovative eco-system and generate value by enabling completely new generation of solutions that were not possible before. Thus, there is a vital need to define and understand the basic information related to Big Data environment. This paper give a brief introduction to the big data environment and discusses a the Big Data reference architecture, Big Data applicability in different areas of study, opportunities provided and challenges faced by Big Data systems.
