This multilayered approach is useful in creating a comprehensive system for supporting the reintegration of formerly recruited children. It implies that it is not sufficient to support children's reintegration through singular approaches such as trauma counseling or family reunification alone. Deliberate attention needs to be given to the construction of different kinds of support, to the provision of supports in different layers in proportion to the needs, and to the connections between the different supports. A comprehensive system will include a multiplicity of supports that are tailored to the local, national, and regional context: specialized treatment for the most severely affected, community education that builds empathy with formerly recruited children, family reunification and conflict mediation, nonformal and formal education tailored to the situation of formerly recruited children, livelihoods supports such as training on marketable skills and participation in income-generating activities, traditional healing, community reconciliation, mentoring by trusted adults, and ongoing child protection monitoring and action.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
