The causes and the main types of thermal stresses that occur in practice are introduced. Factors of importance in modeling, e.g., Biot number, similarity, and constraints are discussed.Different experimental techniques used to model thermal-stress problems are reviewed with special attention to the many photoelastic methods that have been used.A bibliography of some of the main papers in the field is presented.
