Palpation, commonly used to detect the function and endpoint of heterotopic allografted rat hearts, tends to give false-positive and -negative results, especially in cases of chronic rejection. The new method of heart monitoring described here uses an inductively powered implanted FM transmitter to send ECG signals to an ordinary radio receiver. This method was simple and reliable and permitted quantitative measurement of ECG parameters during the course of rejection.
