There has been increasing interest in recent years in cognitive linguistics and its application to second language acquisition, and Andrea Tyler’s work has been at the forefront of this. In the book under review, she compares cognitive linguistic and traditional approaches to second language teaching and learning, and to L2 research as well. This book makes a strong case for the benefits and the practicality of using cognitive linguistics for language teaching in terms of conceptual meaning, particularly in areas that involve multi-faceted grammatical rules.
