In a small subset (<10%) of cadaveric liver recipients, early, severe progressive HCV reinfection leads to liver failure (1). But in living donor graft recipients, early, severe HCV recurrence resulting in graft loss has not been reported to date – except in a patient who was also infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a significant risk factor for a more aggressive viral hepatitis course (4).
