MATERIALS AND METHODSRabbit cornea fibroblast cells (SIRC) were obtained from the American Type Culture Collection (Rockville, MD) and cultured as monolayers in minimal essential medium (Auto-Pow MEM; Flow Laboratories, Rockville, MD) and 10% fetal calf serum and maintained at 37OC in a gas mixture of air and C02. The two strains of Shope fibroma virus were propagated in SIRC cell monolayers. Infectivity of SFV-I was measured by the production of plaques in SIRC cell monolayers under agar, while SFV-W was measured by counting the number of foci
