Trials [described] supported the view that I toxicity is the cause of Akagare disease of rice. FAS.The soils of Akagare paddy fields contained up to 10 times as much I as normal soils and the rice growing on the soils contained 30-40 ppm I. In pot experiments, normal soil treated with 50 mgI/pot (8 kg wet soil) gave similar water soluble soil I and NaOH soluble plant I contents as under Akagare field conditions. It was proved that I toxicity caused Akagare disease. Varietal sensitivity to Akagare disease was also studied in pot and water culture experiments.[318:241.22.15].
