Dear Editor, Amsler chart and M-CHARTS are useful tools to detect metamorphopsia, but the method is different; Amsler chart uses grids, while M-CHARTS uses dotted lines [1, 2]. Previous studies compared the rate of metamorphopsia detection between these two methods in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD)[3] and macular edema [4] and suggested that the M-CHARTS were superior to the Amsler chart in detecting metamorphopsia in both etiologies. However, the differences in the rates of metamorphopsia detection remain unclear among various macular diseases. In this study, we compared differences in the detection of metamorphopsia between Amsler chart and M-CHARTS for various macular diseases. This study was retrospective of consecutive patients who had macular disease at Hyogo College of Medicine from July 2016 through December 2019. We included the patients who underwent Amsler chart and M-CHARTS (Inami, Tokyo) on the same day. The study excluded patients if they had systemic or ocular disease other than macular disease with an effect on visual functions. Standard Amsler chart (white grid on a black background) and M-CHARTS examinations were performed at a distance of 30 cm with appropriate near correction by professional orthoptists blinded to the fundus
