MATERIALS AND METHODSSynovial Fluids•\Synovial fluids from 23 patients with classical and definite rheumatoid arthritis, 16 with osteoarthritis, 4 with internal derangement, 4 with hydrops due to simple synovitis(hydrops), 2 with gout and 1 with systemic lupus erythematosus were obtained from the Orthopedic Outpatient Clinics of Tachikawa Kyosai Hospital and Kawasaki City Hospital and from the Collagen Disease Outpatient Clinic of Juntendo University Hospital. Rheumatoid arthritis was diagnosed according to the criteria of the American Rheumatism Association. All the fluids, freed of cellular materials and fibrin clots by centrifugation at 2,000•~ g for 20 min, were stored at-20• Ž until used.
