Cattle genome mapping efforts, annotation and evolutionary history analysis are briefly summarized in this chapter. Earlier efforts in cattle genome analysis are discussed, including cattle cytogenetic and somatic cell hybrid mapping and linkage mapping. Advances achieved with the use of radiation hybrid mapping and fingerprint map construction are also presented. Emphasis is also given to cattle chromosome nomenclature and chromosome abnormalities (numerical and structural).
