Since the mid-1970s a new leafspot of strawberries has occurred in summer nurseries in Fla. Isolations from leaf lesions consistently yielded aC.sp. identical with the original description ofC. fragariae.In inoculation tests an isolate from a leaf lesion and an isolate from the crown of a wilted plant incited leaf spot and typical anthracnose symptoms on stolons and petioles. The taxonomy and nomenclature ofC. fragariaeis discussed and the results indicate that leaf spot is a phase of anthracnose.
