One of the key issues for the design of cold-formed steel members is the local buckling strength under axial compression. In this paper, we focused on the local buckling strength of rectangular section and lipped -C section members whose adjacent plate elements have a different width-thickness ratio, and investigated their elastic and inelastic local buckling strength through the numerical analysis. By comparing the numerical analysis results with that obtained from a conventional design method, we found that the plate restraining effect between adjacent plate elements affected both the elastic buckling strength and the maximum strength of cold-formed steel members.
