Late dumping syndrome, or so-called “reactive hypoglycemia,” is a rare disorder that occurs 1–3 hr after ingestion of a meal and appears to be caused in response to the hyperinslinemia that occurs with the rapid absorption of sugar (1). The pathogenesis of this syndrome is not well understood. Although dietary modifications are often effective in preventing hypoglycemia, some patients are refractory to these dietary manipulations and medications such as acarbose, diazoxide, and somatostatin analogue believed to be effective for late dumping syndrome (1–4). We report a patient with late dumping syndrome unresponsive to these treatments who was successfully treated with oral prednisolone to prevent hypoglycemia.
