In recent years the printing of biomaterials has become of increasing interest, in particular the ability to generate biological scaffold materials has attracted substantial media attention. Here we use a new kind of inkjet printing called Reactive Inkjet Printing (RIJ) 1 as a method to print three dimensional silk scaffolds for use in biomedical applications. RIJ refers to the use of two or more different kinds of inks that are printed in the sample location and react with each other to form a new substance or generate conformational changes in one of the inks.
