This study is based on a collection of Cephalopoda, belonging to the Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), which Dr. J . Knudsen kindly entrusted to me. Most of the specimens were collected on the West African coast by different expeditions: "Dr. Th. Mortensen's Java-South Africa Expedition 1929-1930", the "Atlantide Expedition 1945-1946", "Dr. G. Thorson's Expedition to the Canary Islands 1947", and the "Galathea Expedition 1950-1952". Some other specimens from the West African coast or from other localities were added.
