A new species of the genusOrbilia,O. yuanensis(Orbiliales, Orbiliomycetes), was collected from Yunnan Province (China) and Taiwan. The fungus differs from previously knownOrbiliaspecies in that it has rod-shaped ascospores with a tear-shaped spore body. An anamorph that was obtained from ascospore isolates is characterized as producing long, curved macroconidia and much smaller, partly helicoid microconidia. Morphologically, this anamorph fits the polyphyletic genusAnguillospora. Based on a sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) gained from two isolates,O. yuanensisnested near species of theOrbilia luteorubellaaggregate, although at a rather high distance. To date, there have been two reports regarding a connection betweenOrbiliaspecies and theirAnguillosporaanamorph. The connection betweenO. yuanensisand itsAnguillosporaanamorph discussed here is the third published report. In this paper, both teleomorph and anamorph are illustrated and described.
