These notes are a guide to algebraic groups, especially reductive groups, over a field. Proofs are usually omitted or only sketched. The only prerequisite is a basic knowledge of commutative algebra and the language of modern algebraic geometry. My goal in these notes is to write a modern successor to the review articles Springer 1979, 1994. Caution: These notes will be revised without warning (the numbering may change).
