Three hundred sixty-two unselected hospital employees were injected with influenza A vaccine by 6 different schedules in which antigen dosage and route of administration were varied. The occurrence of antibody response was suboptimal in this study, in which the maximum dose was 200 CCA units. However, important findings derived from the study, which employed small antigenic mass of borderline efficacy. Division of vaccine into 2 injections given 7 days apart induced a response superior to that effected by the same total dose in a single injection. Small doses by the subcutaneous route were at least equivalent in antigenic efficacy to equivalent doses administered intradermally.
