Increasingly, drones are being used for rescue activities. Drones typically orient themselves using a global positioning system (GPS). However, GPS is a remote signal and sometimes the GPS signal is weak. Therefore, using GPS to control drones in buildings is difficult. This research uses complex disaster relief environments as the background and assesses the laser sensor, which uses simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to obtain data. An indoor autonomous drone is examined at the most suitable speed while the drone uses an infrared thermal camera during flight to find survivors and finally return the location of survivors on a map. Based on the experiment results, we proved the feasibility of the proposal by which the drone can fly autonomously indoors and a survivor can be found, with the location recorded using an infrared camera. Experiment results indicate that the drone at a speed of 1 m/s can produce good results in the experimental environment.
