Questionnaire studies of the 1st community-wide epidemic of Asian influenza in the United States in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, in August, 1957, showed an overall attack rate among those surveyed of 41.5%. The epidemic appeared 1st among high school children from families of lower socioeconomic status. Rates were highest in the lowest socioeconomic groups and in the high school and 10-14-year-old age groups. Attack rates increased with increase in family size in all socioeconomic strata. A repeat survey of the same population 4 weeks following the 1st showed remarkable correlation between the two.
