Transitions between the 4fNand 4fN−15d configurations of trivalent lanthanide ions in various host crystals may be modeled by using extensions to the standard crystal-field model for the 4fNconfiguration. In this work we discuss the trends in calculated and experimental parameters across the lanthanide series.
