Summary Small discontinuous deposits of sand and gravel extending south-east from near Selby to the southern part of the Isle of Axholme are, on the basis of their lithology, stratigraphic context and topographic expression, considered to be ice-marginal sediments formed in the high-level phase of Lake Humber by a tongue of Devensian ice which extended into the south-eastern part of the Vale of York.
