The Team Climate Inventory (TCI; Anderson & West, 1998) was developed to be a multi-dimensional measure of facet-specific climate for innovation within work groups. The original version consisted of 61 items that were generated from previous literature and from the four-factor theory of climate for innovation (West, 1990). The face validity and acceptability of this initial version was determined by a pilot test with 14 nursing teams and two hospital management teams. A five-factor (Vision, Participation safety, Support for innovation, Task orientation, and Interaction frequency), 38-item measure was identified through a confirmatory factor analysis with 121 work teams representing four occupations (N= 971). Alpha coefficients ranged between 0.84 and 0.94 in a sample of 155 managers from 27 hospital management teams. Support for innovation emerged as the only significant predictor of overall innovation in this sample. Inter-class correlation coefficients within each of the five samples across the five scales ranged from 0.67 to 0.98.(PsycTests Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
