Abstract To the Editor, Systematic reviews of the growing literature on preschool asthma prediction can help determine whether the available evidence supports the use of existing prognostic models to inform childhood asthma prevention and clinical management. These backward-looking measures do not summarize the predicted outcome probabilities and do not directly address questions about the impact of prognostic models on patient outcomes. 6-8 Moreover, they also do not account for the fact that prognostic model accuracy may change over time as more children develop asthma, the outcome being predicted. I Second i, it may also be informative to categorize infants or children using prognostic models as those who did or did not experience the predicted asthma outcomes within a specified time interval, and then look back to categorize the prognostic model's risk strata and its accuracy for that point in time.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of Pediatric Allergy & Immunology is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
