The effect of grain size reduction on the wear resistance of pure nickel was investigated quantitatively using the Taber abrasive wear test. As the grain size decreases from the polycrystalline to nanocrystalline range, the abrasive wear resistance increases considerably as expected from the increased hardness, and the volume loss due to wear follows Archard’s law.
