Forty-nine different strains of tissue from 25 species of higher plants were used in this study. These represented all major plant groups, almost every plant part, new cultures and well-established cultures, and cultures resulting from many different inciting agents (hormonal, genetic, viral, and bacterial). The growth of a few tissues was promoted, but the most pronounced effect was inhibition of growth, in 2 cases resulting in death of the tissues. As a group, monocotyledonous tissues were inhibited. Otherwise, there was no apparent correlation between the responses and the above-mentioned characteristics of the tissues. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Authors
