A theorem dealing with the relationship between FRFs is proposed for chain-like mass-spring systems, i.e. the MDOF systems which possess diagonal mass matrices and tri-diagonal stiffness matrices. A transmissibility function is defined to describe the correlation characteristics between FRFs. From the proof of the theorem, conditions for its applicability are indicated and a derivation for extension of the theorem is presented. Several numerical simulations show the validity of the theorem. The physical interpretation and application of the theorem are also discussed. It is concluded that the transmissibility function exists not only in the chain-like mass-spring systems but also in those cases where two general systems are connected in certain ways.
